Primer prepares surfaces, improves adhesion, and evens absorbency. Topcoat provides color, finish, and protection. In Saudi builds, use primer on gypsum, new cement, or absorbent walls before topcoat. Matkel primers help reduce blotching and improve the final appearance.
Sometimes on clean, stable walls, but without primer the color may look uneven or peel later. In Saudi heat, a primer layer is recommended, especially for light colors on new or absorbent surfaces, to control absorption and protect the finish.
One coat is often enough for clean, leveled walls. Metal, oil-based, or damaged surfaces may need two or more coats. Allow each coat to dry fully before applying the next, and adjust timing for hot conditions in Riyadh, Jeddah, or Dammam to avoid cracking or poor spreading.
Drying time depends on primer type, temperature, and humidity. In mild conditions, primer may be touch-dry in about one to three hours. In hotter areas like Riyadh or Jeddah, drying can be faster, but always follow the label before applying the final coat.
White or light primers usually have little effect, while tinted or dark primers can show through light topcoats. Choose based on the surface: rust-resistant for metal, sealing for gypsum, or high-adhesion for uneven walls. Matkel offers primers for different substrates to help the final color stay consistent.
